ABOUT Kathleen McQuown Greenberg

A native Californian, Kathleen McQuown Greenberg lived near Pasadena and Hollywood, and her first exposure to advanced design came in the form of the classic architecture of Los Angeles: the mid-century modern buildings of John Lautner and Richard Neutra, the California bungalow style pioneered by Greene & Greene,  and the Spanish revival associated with Wallace Neff. Though she was unaware of it at the time, these artists played a crucial role in shaping her visual sensibility.

Her journey to interior design took a circuitous route through fashion, fine art, and photography. After extensive work in these related fields, she enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, and graduated summa cum laude in interior design. Hired by famed decorator, Linda Marder, while she was still a student, McQuown-Greenberg worked with Ms. Marder for five years during which she was involved with Joel Silver's restoration of Frank Lloyd Wright's Storer House, and I. M. Pei's critically acclaimed building for Creative Artist Agency in Beverly Hills, among other projects. From 1995 through 1999 Kathleen was in house interior designer for Boto Design Architects, whose projects during those years included retail stores, offices and work spaces for professionals in entertainment, music, and the digital arts, and the upgrading and renovation of post-production facilities.

McQuown-Greenberg was licensed as a Certified Interior Designer (CID) in 1993, and by the mid-nineties McQuown-Greenberg had developed a recognizably unique approach to interiors and launched her own firm, KMG Interiors. Characterized by qualities of simplicity, Scandinavian and Japanese style, clean lines, and a sensitive approach to texture and color, Kathleen’s aesthetic is flexible and conceived to frame and present the taste and interests of her clients; she encourages input and ideas from clients, and considers a job unfinished until the client is happy with it. As a longtime resident of Los Angeles she's developed a broad and eccentric network of resources, and is skilled at finding unique furniture, materials, hardware and accessories.

A seasoned traveler, Ms. McQuown-Greenberg has a broad knowledge of the fabrics, crafts and furniture of Europe, Asia and Africa, and specializes in interweaving visual elements of other cultures into classic southern California style. Because of her background in visual art, Kathleen has attracted a clientele that includes photographers, musicians, artists, and entertainment industry figures. A designer who looks to the future, she strives to use eco-friendly materials whenever possible, and has a keen interest in technological advances relating to green living.
